Edge play	Edge play should only be contemplated by those experienced in BDSM with specific training. Play that hovers at the edge of limits and or safety. May not be safe and sane but retains consensuality. SM play that involves a chance of harm, either physically or emotionally. Because the definition of edge play is subjective to the specific players (i.e., what is risky for me may not be as risky for you), there isn't a universal list of what is included in edge play. However, there are a few forms of play which almost always make the cut, including fire play, gunplay, rough body play, breath play, and bloodplay.
Edging	The practice of sexually stimulating one's self or another person to near the point of orgasm, often repeatedly, without allowing orgasm. This can be done to create an intense state of arousal, to tease and frustrate the person being edged, and/or as a form of control.
Elastrator	A castration device. This device sometimes get used as a clamp, mainly for nipples. Avoid using for long periods. Irreversible damage from securing the testicles tightly at the base of the scrotum and letting the testicles and scrotum die from lack of blood.
Electric Pony	A variation on the wooden horse consisting of a sawhorse or similar piece of furniture with two electrical conductors, such as copper rods or thin copper pipes, running along its length, to which an electric current is applied. A person is made to straddle the electric pony so that as long as he or she remains on tiptoe, thee is no contact with the pony, but lowering from tiptoe results in an electric shock to the inner thighs, penis, or vulva. When the person becomes tired, it becomes increasingly difficult to avoid being shocked.
Electro / electrical play / electro-torture	Using low voltage electrical toys in SM. Specific safety rules must be in place. Dangerous. Edge Play.
Ella Fitzgerald	A codeword for scat used to get around content restrictions on certain websites. So noted because the singer was gifted in using the vocal technique called scatting.
Emasculation	Permanent removal of the male sex organs. Sometimes simulated through the use of a chastity device or through a dominants restrictions forbidding typical male behavior such a urinating while standing.
Emetophilia	Sexual arousal from vomiting. See Roman Showers
Emotional Triggers	events, words, situations that produce a strong emotional reaction in particular individuals and for that reason may be either deliberately avoided or used in play.
EMT Shears/Safety Scissors/Bandage Shears	Specialized scissors, often used by emergency medical personnel, consisting of a pair of scissors with one sharp blade and one blunt blade with a rounded end. The blunt blade can be slid beneath bandages or anything else wrapped tightly around a limb without risk of cutting or injuring the person. Often used in BDSM to remove a person from tight bondage or mummification very quickly in the event of an emergency. A sturdy pair of bandage scissors will make quick work of even thick rope; a person totally wrapped in rope can be freed within seconds with bandage scissors without injury. May not always cut through rope so test first.
Endorphin	A chemical produced in the body that seems to be involved in regulating the perception of pain. Endorphins give a “rush” similar to adrenaline (which is released simultaneously) and it is speculated that their release is the cause of the phenomenon known as “subspace.”
Endorphin Rush	Endorphins are the chemicals responsible for the "high" people often get from activities such as sex, or high-risk sports, and is the body's response to heightened or intense experiences of certain kinds. BDSM activities, especially those incorporating a degree of sensation play often cultivate the endorphin rush as part of their "payoff" to the sub. But also see aftercare for the care needed as the body returns to normal.
Enema	The introduction of liquids into the rectum and colon to stimulate evacuation.
English arts	code word for caning.
Erotic Hypnosis	the art of giving erotic pleasure through hypnotic suggestion
Erotic pain	Pain administered from a Dom/me or Top practitioners of BDSM to a sub or bottom practitioner of BDSM. The sub/bottom usually will derive sexual satisfaction from receiving erotic pains, as will the Dom/me/Top derive satisfaction from giving the erotic pains. Erotic Pains can travel a whole spectrum of intensity, from feather light scratching to full force swings of a bullwhip. It is very important that both the Giver and the receiver know the desires, as well as the limits, of each other to ensure that the 'Erotic Pains' stay just that, erotic and enjoyable.
Erotic Power Exchange/EPE	Almost always connotes power exchange for the purposes of a specific sexual encounter, as opposed to total power exchange.
European Houses of Kink	A popular myth in North America. People claim to have been trained in mythical dungeons and houses of kink in Europe (often since they were minors/children) as a way to sound more skilled or important to those who don’t know better.
Evil Stick	An implement consisting of a thin rod of carbon fiber, typically about the diameter of a mechanical pencil lead, attached to a small, rigid handle. The carbon fiber rod is flexible and very strong; when laid against the skin and then flicked with a strong upward motion at its tip, it causes a sharp pain and typically leaves a thin, well-defined welt that can persist for days.
Evolving	A person who is undergoing gradual change.
Executioner's Hood	A specific form of hood, almost always made of leather, which covers the head and the upper part of the wearer's face but not the wearer's mouth.
Exhibitionism	The act of engaging in exhibitionistic behavior, such as sexual behavior, for the sexual gratification of the person being watched. Martymachilia
Exploring	A person who is on an open journey through the world of kink.
Eye Contact Restriction	enforcing the Top's dominance by not allowing the submissive to look into the top' eyes, creating a sense of subservience and inequality
Face Slapping	Involves play where a moderate amount of slapping of the face is used for humiliation / control. This play can be dangerous if an eye is struck, etc.
Fainting	A temporary loss of consciousness. Caused by lack of oxygen to the brain, can happen during extreme BDSM play – such as breath control, long pain sessions, etc. Can be dangerous (brain damage) when caused by breath control play.
Fall/Falls	The striking end of a whip or flogger
Fantasy Abandonment	Play which involves the fantasy of abandonment. Possibly leaving the submissive in a deserted area or public area for a short period of time to exert control and punishment.
Fat Fetish	PFat fetishism is sexual attraction to overweight or obese people due to their weight and size. A variety of fat fetishism is feederism or gaining, where sexual gratification is obtained not from the fat itself but from the process of gaining, or helping others gain, body fat.
Fear Play	Any BDSM activity centered around creating the feeling of fear in one or more of the participants. This does not necessarily have to involve elements of pain or actual danger; sensations of fear may be created through the use of psychological pressure, sensory deprivation, the threat of pain or discomfort, or even exposing a person to the object of a phobia.
Feeder Gag	Any gag designed to hold the mouth open so that the person wearing the gag has no choice but to accept anything which is placed in the mouth.
Felching	1) A person sucks the semen out of someone's vagina or anus. 2) Inserting an animal into vagina or anus.
Female Led Relationship/FLR	An ongoing romantic or sexual relationship in which Femdom is an integral part.
FemDom	Female domination
FemSuit	A specific type of full-body suit made to resemble a woman's body and including silicone breasts and a prosthetic vagina, worn either as a sexual fetish or as a prosthetic for transgender women.
Fetish	A specific interest, object or action that the use of causes sexual pleasure.
Fetish wear	Specific clothing designed to be extreme, provocative, or specialized to a specific BDSM or fetish scene. May include leather, vinyl, or rubber clothing, lifestyle jewelry, corsets, boots, or sexy costumes that indicate a scene role.
Fetishist	A person who enjoys a specific sexual fetish or multiple fetishes.
Fiddle/Shrew's Fiddle	A restraint consisting of a short metal rod that has a locking collar, usually made of metal, affixed to one end and a pair of locking cuffs on the other, or a rigid yoke with openings for the neck on one end and the wrists on the other.
Figging	Insertion of a thin slice of ginger into the anus, spreading ground ginger around the female genital area.
Financial Domme/FinDomme	A dominant that controls a submissive financially, may be a humiliation based relationship.
Fire and Ice	is a practice which involves in BDSM play the use of heat and cold, often candle wax for heat (the fire) and ice cubes (the ice) applied to the bare skin, especially the nipples or genital area
Fire Play	Using fire as an implement of BDSM. This can mean blowing the heat of a light torch onto a bottom, lighting pools of fuel on the bottom's skin, lighting flash cotton on the bottom, and other creative uses of heat. Cupping is usually considered an offshoot of fire play, although in sensation it's closer to the use of clips and clamps. Usually considered edge play.
Fire Whip	1. A flogger with multiple lashes made of flat woven Kevlar, designed to be soaked with a flammable accelerant such as lighter fluid and then ignited prior to use. The fire whip is used by keeping it continuously in motion, so that it strikes the target for very brief periods of time so as to avoid burning the person being whipped. 2. A type of single tail consisting of a rigid handle connected to a long, flexible Kevlar rope, often with a short length of Kevlar string on the end, designed to be soaked in an accelerant and then ignited prior to use.
Fish Hook/Fish hooking	The practice of keeping a submissive's mouth open by means of blunt hooks placed at the corners of the mouth that draw the lips apart, often for oral sex.
Fisting/Handballing	Insertion of the whole hand into a bottom's vagina or anus. Fisting is not done by making a fist and shoving it into the vagina; rather, the fingers are placed together and inserted slowly; as the hand is inserted, the fingers tend to curl into a loose ball.
Flogger	a whip with numerous tails used for striking in play and punishment. Similar to a cat-o-nine tail, however, on the flogger, the tails are usually unknotted, broader and flatter. Some specialty floggers are produced made with other materials such as fur or chain.
Florentine Flogging / Double Weave	Two handed method of striking a bottom with matching or similar floggers in a figure eight pattern, one flogger in each hand of the top. The strikes occur on the downward stroke or top of each strike.
Flying	1. Rigged horizontal suspension. Warning: the back may be strained unless the waist is supported. 2. A feeling of disconnected elation that may be felt by a bottom during and sometimes after an intense scene (sub space)
Foley Catheter	A catheter with a balloon that can be inflated with sterile water to hold in place.
Folsom Street Fair	Folsom Street Fair is an annual BDSM and leather subculture street fair, held in September, that caps San Francisco's "Leather Pride Week". The Folsom Street Fair, sometimes simply referred to as "Folsom", takes place on Folsom Street between 8th and 13th Streets, in San Francisco's South of Market district.
Food Play	1) Dominant controlling the amount and type of food intake by a submissive. 2) Using food products as insertable sex toys or applied to the body as sensory play or sexual foreplay 3) Using the bottom as a presentation plate (frequently used for sushi) i.e. Nyotamori
Foot worship	Also called "foot service." Expressing adoration or in humiliation play through oral service (licking, kissing, sucking) to a Dom/me’s feet.
Force Feeding	A technique by which the Dominant controls the submissive’s eating habits. Used to “fatten up” submissives or in age play games.
Forced Dressing	Forcing the submissive to dress however the Dominant sees fit, whether publicly or privately. Used generally for humiliation.
Forced feminization	a Dominant "forces" a submissive man into feminine clothing. It is confusing to some people that this scene is described as "forced," when the submissive consented to it or even requested it.
Forced Homosexuality / Forced Heterosexuality/ Orientation Play	"Forcing" a bottom of one sexual attraction to service a partner of an undesired gender.
Forced Masturbation	A practice whereby a dominant partner "forces" a submissive partner to masturbate, usually in ways that are unpleasant, painful, or humiliating, as part of humiliation play, orgasm denial, or forced orgasms. May include elements of chemical play (for example, forcing a person to masturbate with an irritant such as Tiger Balm).
Forced Orgasm	An orgasm induced in a person against that person's will or as part of resistance play, often by means of bondage combined with sexual stimulation.
Force-Me Queen/King	A sub that wants/needs/desires to be forced to do something or take punishment.
Forniphilia	The fetish of using the bottom as objectified furniture.
Forniphilic gag	A forniphilic gag is a type of gag that has the primary purpose of objectifying and/or humiliating the wearer. The term forniphilic comes from the word forniphilia, which is the incorporation of a bound person into furniture or other objects. The gag becomes a mounting point for a tool or other device which allows a slave to perform a task or service for their master or mistress. When employing the gag, the slave's hands are usually bound behind them so they have no other option than to control the tool with the gag. In order to provide stability and to allow the slave to control the tool, a muzzle gag with a mouthpiece is commonly used as a base for attaching the tool
Fountain of Venus	Water sports involving urination by a woman.
Free play	BDSM activities in which there is no domination or submission.
Frenzies/ Virgin Rapture / Submissive Frenzy	Period of time (often years long) wherein newcomers are so overwhelmed by SM that they think the world revolves around it and can never imagine returning to any other form of sexuality. When the infatuation ends feelings of disappointment and loss are common. It may be reassuring to know that this is a normal process as SM is integrated into a person’s sexuality. A period of excitement wherein the person thinks BDSM and D/s are perfect and amazing and that he or she must learn everything and get into a relationship ASAP.
Frottage	To rub your body against another person or object to get sexually aroused.
Fucking Machine	Any device or machine which is designed to simulate the act of sex; often consisting of a dildo affixed to a reciprocating motor so as to thrust in and out of a person. Many varieties of fucking machines exist, some designed so that the subject straddles or sits on them, others designed to be used when the subject is prone or spread-eagle.
Funishment	BDSM play that mimics punishment but is done for fun.
Funnel Gag	A gag, usually consisting of an oblong or penis-shaped rubber or plastic bit, which has a tube running through it connected to a funnel. When the gag is placed in the mouth, any liquids introduced into the tube will pass into the mouth, and the person wearing the gag has no choice but to swallow them.
Furry	A person who identifies with a particular anthropomorphic animal or creature, often wearing costumes or tokens representing the animal.
Gaff	1.A garment designed to hold the penis and testicles under the body to give an illusion of feminine shape under panties. 2. The act of using duct tape for bondage purposes or mummification
Gag	Device to open the jaw, and closes the mouth around it; forces a bottom to concentrate on breathing and helps a screamer not wake up the neighbors. Also may hold the mouth wide open.
Gas Mask	A mask worn on the face connected to a chemical air filter and used to protect the face and lungs from toxic gases. Used mostly in heavy S/m scening.
Gates of Hell	A linked series of consecutively smaller rings to fit around the penis with a leather strap that buckles around the balls. Typical of cock cages in general as the male becomes aroused, the device becomes tighter and more uncomfortable; an intriguing dilemma for the male masochist.
Genital Clamp	Any device designed to be clamped on the genitals, either as part of genitorture or to sensitize the genitals. Commentary: Different designs of genital clamps exist for use on male or female genitalia.
Genitorture	Torture of the genitals.
German arts	Code word implying BDSM interests, specifically spanking.
Gimp	A submissive; most often, a gay male submissive. Usage: Almost always refers to a submissive who frequently wears tight-fitting vinyl, leather, PVC, or rubber suits with a hood or mask. Sometimes used insultingly or to indicate derision of the person so named.
Gimp Mask	A specific form of hood, often made of heavy leather or rubber, which entirely encloses the face and head, and which often lacks openings for the eyes, mouth, or ears.
Gimp Suit	Any tight, formfitting suit, typically made of black rubber, PVC, heavy leather, or a similar material, which encloses the wearer's entire body. May have straps, rings, or other accessories which can serve as tie-down points.
Given Away	The Dom/me gives the sub to another Dom/me to use (usually for a set amount of time) or in some rare cases to keep.
Glory holes	A hole in a partition or wall. People engage in sexual activity from opposite sides of the hole/opening.
Goddess Worship	Service to a Mistress, treating her as a non-religious but personally sacred deity.
Gokkun	(from the Japanese , "gulp.") A sexual practice, originating in Japan, in which a person drinks a large quantity of ejaculate from a container.
Golden Enemas/Douches	Using urine in place of water for enema or douche.
Golden Shower/GS	Urinating on a sexual partner for sexual pleasure.
Good pain/Bad pain good ouch/bad ouch	BDSM pain, generated by a Top in a scene for the satisfaction of the bottom vs. non-BDSM pain, generating no satisfaction. i.e. a spanking that leaves bruises vs. barking up against a coffee table, leaving bruises.
Gor	Setting of a series of novels by John Norman, “The Chronicles of Counter Earth.” The novels feature a hierarchical system of Masters, Mistresses and slaves and strict protocols. Also the basis for online role playing within the Gorean setting. Some 24/7 Master-slave relationships identify with the Gorean philosophies as presented in the books. Gor is frequently a point of contention in the BDSM community for perceived non-consensual relationships, misogyny, and poor writing.
Gorean slave positions	Trained postures and body positions for a Gorean slave in rest or command. Usually signaled with hand gestures.
Gorean slave silk colors	Per the Norma novels, white slave silks indicate virgin slaves. Red indicate non-virgins. Gray silks are State owned. Black-unowned, unpurchased. Yellow silks are usually tavern owned. A slave wears what her owner gives her to wear. The colors slave wears depend on the Owner’s whim, not the hymen status of a slave.
Governess	A female dominant who specializes in assuming the role of a strict disciplinarian, requiring adherence to rigid rules and punishing infractions with spanking or flogging.
Greek	Code word for homosexual, or anal play, frequently used in personal ads.
Gunplay	The practice of including actual (or simulated) firearms into a scene.
Gut Punching	A very extreme and rarely used form of punching the upper abdomen. Damage can be caused with this type of play.
Gwendolyn Hood/Sweet Gwendolyn Hood	A specific type of hood, often made of leather or latex but sometimes made of materials such as PVC or Spandex, which fits around the head and covers the mouth but has a large opening for the eyes and nose. Etymology: Named for Sweet Gwendoline, a character in a series of bondage comics written by artist John Willie in the 1950s and 1960s, who was often depicted wearing this style of hood.
Gynarchy	1. Formally, Sociology A political or governmental system ruled by women. 2. Colloquial Femdom, particularly femdom in which all females are assumed to be superior to the male.
